Hawthorne Hotel's Gerrymander Mural by Marblehead resident Alicia Irick
JAIME CAMPOS/Staff photo
Marblehead artist Alicia Irick is painting a mural to recreate the gerrymander political cartoon in the lobby at the Hawthorne Hotel. The term is named for Marblehead native and former Gov. Elbridge Gerry, who signed legislation in 1812 to create an oddly-shaped voting district on the edge of Essex County that favored his political party.
